Steps of Our Initial Analysis

How do we determine if you may benefit from MeRT?

MeRT is carefully tailored based on each person’s diagnostics.

The Initial Analysis for MeRT

The first step to determine if MeRT® is the right treatment for you or a loved one is to get a qEEG and an EKG. A quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) is used to measure the electrical activity in your brain. It also measures brain waves and identifies any dysregulation and any areas that are not communicating as they should.

The qEEG also acts as a “brain map” which shows us exactly what parts of your brain are not in sync with others. For example, there are specific brain wave patterns or oscillations that are associated with neurological or mental health problems. These will show up on the qEEG and identify where in your brain they are occurring.

Once we run this test, our brain scientists and physician review the results so we can customize your treatment specifically for you.

MeRT TMS

The qEEG Process

We perform the qEEG and the EKG at the same time. This is a painless procedure and only takes a short amount of time to gather the data needed.

When you come in for your appointment, you can sit comfortably in a chair while our technician prepares for the qEEG. We place a rubber cap, similar to a swimmer’s cap, on your head. The cap has several holes in it where the electrodes will be placed against your scalp.

The technician will first put a small amount of gel in each hole so that the electrodes will stick. Two small clips are attached to each ear, and an electrode is placed on your chest to get the EKG reading.

We allow 45 minutes for this test for adults though we only need about 15 minutes to get an accurate read. Please wear your hair down (no braids, etc.) so that we can measure the electrical signals with no interference.

For children, we allow up to an hour for the qEEG. If you are seeking treatment for your special needs child, be assured that our technicians are well-trained and can help to keep your child still. We allow for breaks throughout the test as needed.

If you believe your child will struggle to get through this, our new patient coordinator can offer you tips on how to practice and prepare your child. Additionally, we will be with you every step of the way. We encourage you to be with your child while this test is performed.

The Consultation

After the qEEG, your second appointment will be with Dr. Brossfield. This takes approximately 45 minutes. She will go over the results of the qEEG with you and explain how your brain waves and electrical signals are firing.

Think of your brain as a symphony orchestra. Ideally, all the brainwaves and electrical activity act in sync with each other to make beautiful music.

If the “orchestra” is not in sync, you will quickly hear the instruments that are out of tune.

When the brain is operating at different frequencies in different areas, we can use MeRT treatment to pull those frequencies back into a synchronous pattern.

The human brain is miraculous in the way it can heal, but with certain mental health or neurological conditions, it needs to be gently nudged back into the right patterns. This will allow better communication and, ultimately, relief from symptoms.*

A Revolutionary Approach to the Treatment of Neurological Conditions

Dr. Jeralyn Brossfield has brought this revolutionary treatment called MeRT to her clinic in Rancho Mirage, CA.

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, uses the technology of TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.

What makes MeRT so revolutionary is that we customize treatment specifically for your brain.

TMS uses the same frequency and hertz (Hz) level for each condition and is more of a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. And technicians administer standard TMS without a qEEG or any other type of testing.

Every person’s brain is as unique as their fingerprint. And each brain operates at different frequencies. If you are going through standard TMS with no guidance, you may not see the results that you desire because your brain may not be operating at that particular standardized frequency!

Because we use the qEEG to measure your specific Hz and frequency, we can target those areas specifically that need to be fine-tuned and customize treatment based on the results found in your brain.

Once the treatment period starts, we use the qEEG after every 10 treatments to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.

Conditions Treated

MeRT can treat the following conditions:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Autism
  • After-effects of stroke
  • Alzheimer’s/Dementia
  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Some complications of COVID-19
  • Traumatic brain injury/concussion
  • “Chemo brain” after chemotherapy has concluded
  • Stroke recovery
  • Sleep disorders
  • Brain optimization

MeRT is drug-free and painless. Typically patients are treated for six weeks in order to obtain optimal and long-lasting results.

After the qEEG and consultation with Dr. Brossfield, should you decide to proceed with treatment, we will do an initial two-week assessment period to see how you respond. Then we will do a repeat qEEG after the first 10 treatments and review clinical improvements.

It may take a bit longer than the initial two weeks to determine if you are responding, but Dr. Brossfield can help you determine if treatment should continue.

MeRT Benefits

MeRT has also shown some amazing results: patients have experienced many benefits, including:

  • Improved sleep
  • Improved relaxation
  • Better focus and concentration
  • Improved memory and mental clarity
  • Better mood
  • Improved ability to cope with stress
  • Increased attention span
  • Increased motivation
  • Improved emotional stability
  • Fewer cravings (such as drugs or alcohol)
  • Increased ability to adapt to change
  • Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Improved sociability

Got Questions?

Talk with our New Patient Coordinator.

This procedure is only currently FDA cleared for Drug Resistant Depression and OCD. This treatment is not FDA-approved at this time for Autism. In some cases, this treatment has been used successfully off-label for other conditions including PTSD, TBI, Dementia, Parkinsons, ADHD, Learning Disorders and the after-effects of stroke. In most cases Insurance does not cover this procedure at this time, therefore all expenses are out of pocket for treatment. You must be able to stay in the area of our Clinic for 2-week intervals for treatment (typically two or three visits).
