Hear What Miriam had to say…
When speaking about MeRT treatment for autism on The Doctors TV show, Miriam Gimal discussed how her daughter was diagnosed with severe autism at a year and a half and what her family went through. Here’s a bit of what she said:
“Our family was in so much pain. And like many moms, I have a long list of everything I tried, and she wasn’t budging. She was formally diagnosed at a year and a half with severe autism. I was told she would have to be put in a hospital, eventually.
“I went to see our doctor, and he said, ‘Listen, Miriam, we’ve been working together for three years. You’ve done everything I’ve asked you to do. I can’t lie to you: your kid isn’t getting better. Why don’t you try this thing called MeRT at the Brain Treatment Center?’
“He explained what it was, and I was on a plane almost before the end of the conversation. When I got to the center, they told me they were going to do an EEG to get a glimpse of how her brain was functioning. And I have to say, that day alone changed my life.
“You go to so many doctors with your autistic child, and you don’t have many answers. But they were able to tell me about her attacks, her anxiety, why she wasn’t speaking… I got answers for the first time about her brain. It felt so good to have that validation to know that, okay, I’m not crazy. This is not normal.
